Psychoacoustic Bass Enhancer for Modern Mixing
BassXtend
Make your low end heard.
BassXtend generates focused musical harmonics above your bass, helping kicks, basslines and 808s stay audible on phones, earbuds, laptops and small speakers, without adding energy below the crossover and without simply turning up the sub.
A fast, four-control bass translation plugin for 808s, synth bass, bass guitar, kicks and drum groups. Loudness-matched to the band it stands in for, so it doesn't just win by being louder.

Hear It
Hear what the speaker cannot play.
A bassline can sound huge in the studio and almost disappear on a phone. Boosting the deepest frequencies harder only costs headroom, because the playback system cannot reproduce them.
BassXtend takes a different approach: it synthesises harmonics above the bass, in the range small speakers can reproduce, so the ear reconstructs the fundamental that isn't physically there.

Each pair is the same take — dry, then through BassXtend. The difference is easiest to hear on the small speakers the plugin is built for.
What It Does
Bass that translates beyond the studio
Phones, laptops and earbuds physically cannot reproduce the deepest part of your mix. BassXtend generates a tuned harmonic series above the crossover you choose, and nothing below it, loudness-matched to the band it stands in for. The ear reconstructs the fundamental, so the notes and rhythm of your low end survive playback systems that can't actually play them.
Set the Root, dial in Intensity, trim the Gain, and move on.
Harmonics Above, Not Energy Below
BassXtend synthesises a harmonic series above the crossover from the band below it. Nothing is added below the crossover, which is exactly why the effect survives small speakers.
Tuned Partials, Not Waveshaper Mush
A recursive multiplicative generator turns each harmonic into the next, so the partials track the played note instead of smearing it. This is not a saturator, not a sub-harmonic synth, and not an EQ.
Loudness-Matched by Design
The generated harmonics are loudness-matched to the band they replace, using expansion ratios derived from ISO 226:2003 equal-loudness contours. At the calibrated Intensity 0 reference, the result lands within 1.8 dB of the original band. BassXtend is designed not to win by being louder.
Hear the Harmonics Alone
Switch Low Band to Out and the original bass drops away, leaving only the generated harmonics, an instant way to hear exactly what BassXtend is adding, and how it tracks your source.
Four Controls. Zero Guesswork.
Root (32–256 Hz), Intensity (−24…+24 dB), Gain trim and Low Band In/Out. The ranges and defaults match the plugin this technique is known from, so existing muscle memory and automation translate directly.
Zero Latency. No Oversampling.
All-IIR processing with zero latency and no oversampling. The harmonic series is capped inside the generator, so nothing aliases toward Nyquist. Safe anywhere in the chain, including live tracking.
Bass translation in seconds.
Set the Root. Add the harmonics. Trim the level. Move on.
Workflow
Designed for modern low-end workflows
Make 808s survive small speakers
Keep sine-heavy 808s identifiable when the deepest fundamental drops out on phones and earbuds.
Keep basslines defined on laptops
Add harmonic information that helps the listener follow the notes and rhythm without simply boosting the sub.
Give kicks more presence
Help kick fundamentals communicate on limited playback while preserving headroom.
Hold a drum group together
Kick weight inside a drum bus survives the bounce to earbuds, without piling sub energy into a group your limiter is already working on.
Clarify bass guitar in a mix
Bring out note definition and body when the instrument needs to translate across consumer devices.
Built for live and low-latency chains
Zero latency and bit-exact behaviour across buffer sizes mean BassXtend sounds the same no matter how your session is configured.
What BassXtend Is Not
More audible bass, not simply more sub.
BassXtend improves the perception of bass already present in the signal by generating harmonics above it. It is not an octave-down sub generator, not a saturator, not an EQ, and not a replacement for arrangement, monitoring or gain staging.
If you need designed rumble or true low-frequency extension, use Seaquake or a dedicated subharmonic tool.
| Need | Best tool |
|---|---|
| Make existing bass notes more perceptible on small speakers | BassXtend |
| Create new octave-down sub or LFE content | Dedicated subharmonic generator |
| Design rumble, tails and low-end movement | Seaquake |
| Rebalance existing low frequencies | EQ |
| Control inconsistent low-end dynamics | Low-band compressor or dynamic EQ |
| Add broad colour and density | Saturation or distortion |
BassXtend + Seaquake
Two different low-end problems. Two focused tools.
Seaquake creates rumble, tails, space and extended low-end movement. BassXtend helps existing bass stay perceptible across phones, laptops, earbuds and full-range systems.
Use Seaquake when you are designing low-end motion. Use BassXtend when the bass is already there but needs to translate.
Tech Specs

FAQ
Common questions
Is BassXtend a subharmonic generator?
No. BassXtend generates harmonics above the crossover you set, and adds nothing below it. It does not create an octave-down sub like a dedicated subharmonic synthesizer. For designed rumble and low-end extension, use Seaquake.
Is BassXtend just distortion?
No. A saturator applies a fixed nonlinearity to the whole signal. BassXtend's recursive generator builds a harmonic series that tracks the played note, synthesised only from the band below the crossover and loudness-matched to it. The result is tuned partials, not waveshaper mush.
How do I compare it fairly against bypass?
At the calibrated Intensity 0 reference, the generated series lands within 1.8 dB of the band it replaces. The plugin is designed not to win by being louder. For tighter comparisons, use the Gain trim (−30…0 dB) to level-match manually.
Will it make bass audible on every phone?
Playback devices vary. BassXtend adds harmonic information in a range small speakers reproduce more effectively, but no plugin can guarantee identical bass perception on every speaker.
Can I use BassXtend on a master?
BassXtend is designed first for sources: 808s, synth bass, bass guitar, kicks and drum groups. If you use it on a bus or master, start with subtle Intensity settings and level-match carefully.
Where should I put it in the chain?
Anywhere. BassXtend is zero-latency, so it's safe in live and tracking chains too. Start on the track after corrective EQ or dynamics for a predictable input. Move it before compression when the generated harmonics should drive the compressor.
Does BassXtend work if the bass was never recorded?
BassXtend synthesises harmonics from the band below the crossover, so it needs usable low-frequency information in the source. It is not sample replacement or a pitch-tracked sub synthesizer.
How is BassXtend different from Seaquake?
Seaquake creates designed rumble and low-end space. BassXtend enhances the perception and translation of bass already present in the signal.
Can I build this effect with stock plugins?
You can approximate the class of effect with filters, nonlinear processing and parallel routing. BassXtend packages it into one focused processor with note-tracking partials, ISO 226 loudness matching and zero latency, repeatable in seconds instead of rebuilt per session.
Will my existing settings and automation transfer?
The four controls keep the ranges and defaults of the plugin this technique is known from, so a parameter set carried across lands in the same place and existing automation curves still mean what they meant.
Can I activate it offline?
Yes. Create a device file on the studio machine, exchange it for an access file on any internet-connected device, and drop that back on the plugin.
What about mono and stereo?
Mono and stereo are both supported, with linked detection and per-channel trim. An input balance is preserved at the output, and anti-phase input produces no generated signal, so your stereo image stays intact.
